Nearly 1,900 Student-Athletes Make Patriot League Winter-Spring Academic Honor Roll

Seven sports notch more than 100 honorees

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. 
– Patriot League student-athletes continued to show their excellence in the classroom as 1,884 were honored on the Winter-Spring Academic Honor Roll for achieving at least a 3.2 grade-point average in the spring semester.
 
The Winter-Spring Academic Honor Roll included student-athletes from sports where the Patriot League championship was competed during the semester, which included men and women’s basketball, men and women’s swimming and diving, men and women’s track and field, men and women’s tennis, men and women’s golf, men and women’s lacrosse, baseball, softball and women’s rowing.
 
There were 1,119 women honored across eight sports and 765 men in seven sports on the Winter-Spring Academic Honor Roll, with an increase of 79 student-athletes over last season’s total. All sports were well-represented in the spring, with 303 honorees in women’s track and field and 217 in both men’s track and field and women’s rowing. There were also more than 100 student-athletes on the list in men’s lacrosse (186), women’s swimming and diving (183), women’s lacrosse (175) and men’s swimming and diving (125). The rest of the winter-spring sports included strong representation for softball (81), baseball (77), women’s basketball (76), men’s tennis (74), women’s tennis (56), men’s basketball (51), men’s golf (35) and women’s golf (28).
 
Combined with the fall season, there were 2,816 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in all sports in 2015-16. The overall total represents an increase of 70 student-athletes from last season’s list. The Fall Academic Honor Roll featured student-athletes in men and women’s cross country, men and women’s soccer, field hockey, volleyball and football, with those seven sports combining for 932 honorees.
 
A total of 180 student-athletes achieved at least a 4.0 grade-point average in the spring semester, and 258 Patriot League student-athletes hit the 4.0 mark during the semester of their championship competition this season when combined with the 78 in the fall.

To be eligible for the Winter-Spring Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and participate in one of the Patriot League’s championship sports during the winter or spring.
