CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its latest set of weekly awards Wednesday, and four Patriot League student-athletes were honored in the sports of football, men’s soccer and women’s cross country.
Lehigh senior placekicker Jake Peery was named the Football Special Teams Player of the Week, while Lafayette swept the men’s soccer awards. Junior midfielder Alec Golini was named Offensive Player of the Week, while senior teammate Josh Brown was honored as Defensive Player of the Week. Rounding out the list was Navy sophomore Annie-Norah Beveridge as the Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Peery nailed a game-winning 22-yard field goal as time expired to send Lehigh to a 34-31 win over Fordham on Saturday. It was the Mountain Hawks' FCS-best 14th straight regular-season win, and the 15th in a row against a Patriot League opponent. Peery made both of his field goal attempts and all four of his extra points to finish with 10 points in the game. It was Lehigh's first game-winning field goal in 10 years. Peery has made three straight field goals and is 18-for-18 on extra points for the year. Monday marked his first selection to the Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week.
Golini exploded for Lafayette last week, scoring both goals in Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over defending CAA champion Delaware before adding the game-winner in the Leopards’ 2-1 triumph over visiting Holy Cross Saturday in League action. Thanks to his six-point week, Golini jumped to the top of the League with 11 points, just ahead of the Navy tandem of Alex Wilson and Joseph Greenspan, who entered the week with 10 apiece.
Brown was part of Lafayette’s defense that surrendered just two shots to Holy Cross Saturday and only a pair on goal earlier in the week to defending CAA champion Delaware. He even got into the act offensively, picking up an assist on Alec Golini’s game-winner in the 2-0 shutout of the Blue Hens. He then led the Leopard defense as it clamped down on the Crusaders in Saturday’s 2-1 victory at home. A two-time member of the League’s Academic Honor Roll, Brown earned his first career weekly honor from the League on Monday.
Beveridge set a Patriot League record with her fourth M-F Athletic Female Runner of the Week award of the season on Monday, and the third consecutive. She finished 15th out of 360 runners in the Gold Race at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh on Friday, helping the Mids to a 10th-place finish in the strong 40-team field. She ran the 6K in a time of 20:25, and has been Navy's top finisher in four of five meets this season.
A total of 19 Patriot League student-athletes have garnered ECAC weekly honors so far this fall.
