CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — The Patriot League on Wednesday announced the hiring of Melanie Pellowski as its correspondent for the new Patriot League Network, set to launch soon. Pellowski joins the League after spending the last five years with Cox Sports New England.
Pellowski will serve as the Network’s primary on-camera host, where she will help present the student-athletes and stories that comprise the Patriot League narrative. Moreover, she will assist with the League’s multimedia outreach and play an integral part in the growing relationship between the League and Campus Insiders, who have partnered for the upcoming launch of the PLN. She will also assist the League in its championship administration and marketing activities.
“I respect and admire the prestigious institutions that make up the Patriot League, and I am honored to join the Patriot League Network at such an exciting time,” Pellowski said. “I look forward to sharing the many stories of the scholar-athletes and athletic programs that truly define what college athletics are all about.”
From September 2008 until joining the League, Pellowski regularly produced and reported feature segments and stories that aired on Cox Sports New England and were streamed on the website of WJAR-TV, the NBC affiliate in Providence, R.I. She served as the primary on-air reporter, producer and editor for “Varsity Life,” which featured stories on local high school varsity athletes. She also spent two seasons as an on-camera host, field producer and editor of “Talkin’ PawSox” in which she reported on and created packages profiling local minor league baseball teams the Pawtucket Red Sox, Portland SeaDogs and Lowell Spinners. As a freelancer, several of her hosted or produced pieces have also appeared on the New England Sports Network (NESN) and New England Cable News (NECN).
In 2012, Pellowski distinguished herself from more than 22,000 entries as a top-30 finalist for MLB Network’s “Fan Cave” contest in which she was judged on video submissions, essays, marketing and media capabilities.
In addition, Pellowski has been involved in a variety of freelance productions including “Rebuilding Together,” a Web series currently in postproduction about the repair and construction of New York and New Jersey homes following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
A New Jersey native, Pellowski earned a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in 2005, where she was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. In 2008 she graduated from Boston University with a master’s degree in broadcast journalism.
