Lafayette senior field hockey standout Katie Fina (Morrisville, Pa./Pennsbury) has been named a regional finalist for the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship award. Fina is one of 20 finalists for the honor, which will be decided later this month at an NCAA meeting.

To qualify for the scholarship, the student-athlete must have had a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 and a well-rounded background that includes athletic achievements, campus involvement and community service. The student-athlete also must have plans to attend graduate school.

A three-time All-Patriot League selection, Fina has long been recognized as one of the top defenders in the conference. The anchor of the Lafayette defense, she started all 17 contests and finished with three assists this season. Fina closed out her Lafayette career having started 71 of 72 games, while scoring three goals and dishing out five assists. During her career, the Leopards compiled a 40-33-2 record and earned a berth in the 2001 Patriot League Tournament.

Fina carries a 3.66 GPA in Government and Law and earned a spot on the 2002 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. She is a member of the National Political Science Honor Society and spent the summer coaching a youth soccer team at the YMCA.
