Live Chat With Lafayette Senior Offensive Lineman Mike Saint Germain

Join the Patriot League on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 1:10 p.m., for a live chat with Lafayette senior offensive lineman Mike Saint Germain from the 2006 Patriot League Football Media Day in Bethlehem, Pa.

Please note, you may begin asking questions immediately, however Mike will not be answering questions until August 1 at 1:10 p.m.

Philly: Dear Mike I undersatnd that as a pre-season 1st team All AMerican you are considered a leader of the offensive line a role usually taken by the center. How is your relationship with the other seniors on the o-line and your center?
Mike Saint Germain: They're both good friends of mine. Our center is a good guy, and he is going to play well for us next year - he just needs to get some more snaps under his belt.

Mark (Danbury, CT): Hi Mike, I was wondering if you could give me some insight into the development of some of the younger guys on the defensive line. In particular, I was wondering about Babcock, Robinson, Schade and Mills. Thanks and best of luck in the coming season.
Mike Saint Germain: We have a good, young bunch of guys with a lot of potential.

Nazareth: What are your expectaitions for the leopards this season?
Mike Saint Germain: Starts with the game against Sacred Heart. And we will take it game-by-game. And hopefully at the end we will have the same result we have had the last two years in the Patriot League.

Bill (Manayunk): How many "look-out" blocks have you provided Brad in the past 2 years?
Mike Saint Germain: None.

Steve, Paramus: You have blocked for some good running backs, Joe McCourt and Jon Hurt, since you have been at Lafayette. One was more power and toughness while the other was more speed and finesse. Is it harder on linemen to adapt to a different style of running from tailback to tailback.
Mike Saint Germain: Joe was pretty quick to the hole and would pick up yards between the tackles. Jon had more of a potential to break one off. You definitely have to hold your block off a little bit longer for the power guy to get through. It was a lot of fun to block for both guys.

Chris (NYC): Is it true that most of the players and coaches believe this year's team could be better than last year's?
Mike Saint Germain: From a player's standpoint, we have the potential, but we have not gotten to that point yet.

John (Easton): Do you think the OL is going to gell early this season or is there going to be a period of adjustment like 2005?
Mike Saint Germain: Hopefully we will gel early. It will be tough because we have a lot of young guys. Once they get on board, we have a chance to be a very good line.

John (Norwich): What will you guys do to get over the Colgate slump?
Mike Saint Germain: Just go up there and play the best we can. We've been close the past couple of years and there is no reason why we can not break through this year.

Anthony (Boonton, NJ): Which Patriot League opponent will be the biggest challenge this season?
Mike Saint Germain: In all honesty, every single League game is important. One game at a time, every game is a big game.

Keith (NYC): How much weight have you gained since last year? Do you anticipate pursuing the NFL after the season?
Mike Saint Germain: I've gained one pound since last season, and if the opportunity arises with a professional career I will be more than happy to pursue it.

Randy (NY): How important was Coach Heffner in terms of your attending LC and then in terms of your improvement while here?
Mike Saint Germain: Coach Heffner has a pretty impressive resume previous to his arrival at Lafayette - that helped in the process. Since I have arrived, he has helped me improve as a player and my understanding of the game.

Costanzo NJ: ME, FREDDY AND SHANE BETTER SEE ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP THIS YEAR...
Mike Saint Germain: We're working hard, and we'll do our best. We will find out in November if our work paid off. Go Jets.

Jersey: How do you expect to replace all the lost starters on offense, defense and special teams. you lost some of lafayettes all time greats. those are hard shoes to fill?
Mike Saint Germain: We had some very good players in the last class. Their losses will be felt, but we have some good kids with potential coming up.

Randy (NY): I know we are reasonably balanced run/pass - is one style of offense more or less "fun" for you?
Mike Saint Germain: We enjoy running the ball a little bit more than passing, but passing the ball helps us maintain some balance and keep people off kilter.

John (Easton): Do you think the new field will have an impact this year? Are the players psyched about it?
Mike Saint Germain: I don't think the new field should impact our play too much except for no more mud games. I do know for a fact that the team is very excited about the new field.
Moderator: Mike, thanks for taking the time to speak with us today. Good luck this season.
Mike Saint Germain: Thanks, and good luck to everyone in the Patriot League this season.
Moderator: Stefan Niemczyk will be joining us momentarily.
